ADIZ-NGO Amigos De Guatemala Partnership

There are no Rotary clubs in or near Zacualpa, Guatemala.  Therefore, Amigos de Guatemala has partnered with a non-governmental organization – The Association of Integral Development Zacualpenese – ONG.  This translates roughly Association for Development in Zacualpa – NGO.  The director of ADIZ is Fredy Argueta.  Mr. Argueta is dependable, honest, and professional in all of his work in the Quiché district of Guatemala.  We are proud to work with such a dedicated and skilled community organizer.

This partnership began in 2004 and since that time we have completed over 20 school development projects which include classrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and complete water systems.  ADIZ also is the committee for our very important scholarship program.  The scholarship committee selects, assigns and supervises the students.  They also manage the distribution of money for the scholarships and provide accountability for all financial transactions.

Miriam “Chayito” Figueroa directs the scholarship program, manages the library and provides caring support to all of the scholarship students.  Magdy Garzona provides translation of the student and sponsor letters.  Magdy also translates for us when we visit Guatemala.

The scholarship/community library is integrated with the ADIZ program(s) and they will assume responsibility for maintenance of this facility and equipment.  The library will be a center for literacy, health, and education programs for the scholarship students, their families and the community of Zacualpa.

We are proud and very fortunate to have this partnership with ADIZ-NGO.  We look forward to continuing this relationship in the future.
