Sponsor a Student
The heart of Amigos de Guatemala is providing educational opportunities to students in underserved areas. Included in these projects is a scholarship/sponsorship program for secondary education students. These students must travel by bus (or walk one or more hours each way) to school and pay for registration, school uniforms, school supplies, etc. You can help by sponsoring one of these students. For the 2022 school year, contributions from people like you helped send 60 deserving students to school, 75% of which were female. The program has not had a single drop out in over 11 years!
The cost of a middle school (Básico) sponsorship for one year is $400. The cost of a high school (Diversificado) sponsorship for one year is $800.
Amigos de Guatemala is constantly reaching out to compassionate individuals willing to help a Guatemalan student continue his/her education. Every year there are more applicants for scholarships than there are sponsors. In 2022 there were approximately 50 applicants. Unfortunately, we were only able to provide 7 new scholarships.
All sponsored students will communicate with their sponsors at least three times a year regarding their education, personal, family, and community life. Sponsors will have their lives enriched by exchanging communication with these students.
